In a significant breakthrough, the Edo State Police Command has successfully apprehended the alleged perpetrator behind the tragic murder of Glory Adekolure, a recent graduate of the University of Benin. The arrest comes following intense investigations and a nationwide manhunt spanning two weeks after the gruesome discovery of Adekolure's lifeless body in the Iyowa Community of Benin City.

Glory Adekolure, a 22-year-old final year Chemistry student, was reported missing after she went to the university for her final clearance on June 13, 2024. Her body was later discovered under a tree on a street close to her residence, sending shockwaves through the community and beyond.

According to Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, who spoke in an interview with Channels Television, monitored by our correspondent, the suspect was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State. The arrest was made possible through the relentless efforts of the police's anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit, aided by diligent investigative work.

"I am pleased to inform the people of Edo State and Nigeria at large that the perpetrator responsible for the murder of Glory Adekolure has been apprehended," Commissioner Adegboye stated. "Following his heinous act, he fled the scene and attempted to evade capture. However, our investigators pursued him tirelessly, leading to his arrest in Asaba."

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed pending further investigation, reportedly confessed to not only the murder of Glory Adekolure but also to the killings of at least eight other young women. Commissioner Adegboye highlighted the gravity of the suspect's alleged crimes, underscoring the ongoing efforts to gather more evidence and ensure justice prevails.

"At this time, the suspect has not been paraded publicly as our investigation is still ongoing," Adegboye added. "We are committed to unraveling the full extent of his actions and bringing closure to the families affected by these senseless acts of violence."

The arrest has brought some relief to the community, which has been grappling with the tragic loss of Glory Adekolure and concerns over the safety of young women in the area. The Edo State Police Command continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperative as they pursue justice for the victims and their families.
