Robbers on Thursday afternoon invaded the Western Delta University, Oghara, in Delta State, disrupting activities as students, lecturers and staff scampered for safety.

Investigation reveals that the criminals had exploited an unfenced perimeter close at the rear of the campus with the aim of  robbing unsuspecting students.

Sensing danger, students and staff swiftly raised alarm and sought refuge in nearby bush while shouting for help.

“The police from Oghara division was quickly informed and they moved in to the school” Ejowoke Anasi, a student from the school told Vanguard.

The swift response of the police was said averted potential casualties as the robbers took to their heels, hastily dispersing in different directions upon spotting the security operatives.

Confirming the incident, Delta State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, disclosed, “They (the suspected robbers) passed through a broken fence at the back of the school, but they could not do anything, they fled on sighting us”

Another student at the school, who craved anonymity told Vanguard that the school need security, atleast so that we won’t have a repeat of what we faced on Thursday, the management please do something about it”

While the school management could not be reached for comment, a source said the management had called for a security meeting today to discuss how to forestall further occurrence in the university.
