Two luxury properties owned by former Chelsea and Ghanaian football star Michael Essien are slated for auction as per a recent directive from the Accra High Court. The Deputy Sheriff of the High Court's Commercial Division issued the sale order on June 12, 2024, following a court ruling against the ex-midfielder.
According to a report by the Daily Guide, the mansions are located at Stephen Quarshie Crescent, East Legon (House Number 9), and Trassaco (Phase 2), Adjiringano (House Numbers 204/205) in Accra. One of these opulent properties is valued between $20 million and $30 million.
Essien's current financial woes stem from substantial loans he acquired from various banks and financial institutions within Ghana, as detailed by Africa Soccer. The 41-year-old former footballer enjoyed a distinguished career, playing for elite clubs including Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Lyon.
This development marks a significant chapter in Essien's post-football life, highlighting the financial challenges he now faces despite his once-glorious career on the international football stage.
