The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a suspect for a brutal hammer attack on a 65-year-old man at Pako Bus Stop, Iyana Ipaja. The incident, which left the victim with severe head injuries, occurred on Monday evening.
The 29-year-old suspect, identified as Sodiq Ishola, was detained by the police at approximately 8:30 pm. Authorities intervened just in time to prevent Ishola from inflicting further harm on the elderly man.
According to preliminary investigations, Ishola and an accomplice had followed the victim and his wife on a motorcycle from Lagos Island to Iyana Ipaja. Upon reaching Pako Bus Stop, Ishola attacked the man with a hammer, causing significant injuries before being apprehended by Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives on patrol.
The Lagos State Police Command, in a statement released on its X (formerly Twitter) page, confirmed that the victim was immediately transported to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, for further investigation.
The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area, prompting calls for increased security measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
