In a tragic turn of events, the Edo State Police Command has apprehended a 32-year-old man, Etinosa Aiguokun, for his alleged involvement in the brutal killing of his 74-year-old father, Pa Aiguokun, and stepmother, Mrs. Roseline, using a pestle.The gruesome incident unfolded last Wednesday in Evbomore community, located in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state. Reports suggest that a heated disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect purportedly fled to the kitchen, seized a pestle, and fatally struck his elderly father's head in the sitting room.
Tragically, Mrs. Roseline, hearing her husband's screams, rushed to the scene only to meet a similar fate at the hands of her stepson. Both victims reportedly succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
In a disturbing sequence of events, the suspect allegedly disposed of the bodies by dragging them to the rear of the house and concealing them near a soakaway. Sources within the community, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the perpetrator attempted to cover his tracks by obscuring the crime scene with weeds, wiping away bloodstains, and nonchalantly remaining in the residence.
To compound the horror, the suspect purportedly callously profited from his heinous act by selling his late father's mobile phone for a paltry sum of N25,000 at a local marketplace in Benin City.
As the shock of the gruesome crime settled in, the other children of the deceased, unaware of their parents' fate, returned home to discover their absence. Their concerns quickly escalated into a missing persons report filed at the Ugbowo Division of the Nigeria Police Force.
Upon investigation, law enforcement officers uncovered the grisly truth, recovering the lifeless bodies from the residence and apprehending the suspect at the scene. The motive behind the vicious attack remains unclear as the suspect undergoes intensive interrogation.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, affirmed that the suspect is currently undergoing questioning to elucidate the circumstances surrounding the heinous crime. The investigation has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the command for thorough scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims have been transported to the mortuary for forensic examination and further investigation into this harrowing tragedy.
