The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned Sukurat Aminu before the Somolu Magistrate’s Court over her alleged hiring of unidentified military men to assault her co-tenants.

Police prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Akinlebi, told the court that Aminu on Aug. 6 at about 10a.m employed the services of five unknown military men to harass and assault Olusola Nosiru and Owolabi Mariam, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Aminu, who resides at No. 23 Rasidi Akotun Street, Bariga, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of threat to life and assault.

According to Akinlebi, the accused allegedly took the action following a disagreement between her and Nosiru over a heap of sand in front of their residence.

“Aminu had called on some willing buyers of the sand but Nosiru objected to the sale, and began filling the front of the house with the sand, leading to a fight.

“The matter was thereafter reported to the police station and was resolved. Aminu was not satisfied with the decision of the police, and then decided to enlist the services of some unknown military men.

“Owolabi and Nosiru were then taken to an unknown location at Ilaje waterway and thoroughly beaten,” he said.

Akinlebi said the offence contravened Sections 21, 171 and 410 of the Criminal Law Code of Lagos.

Magistate Bola Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to August 31, 2012 for mention.
