The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Ola Makinde, on Saturday warned that the widening gap between the rich and the poor might lead to a revolution in Nigeria.

Makinde gave the warning at the inauguration and dedication of Wesley Cathedral of Olowogbowo, Lagos. At the inauguration were Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola; his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the ex-governor’s wife, Oluremi; Action Congress of Nigeria presidential candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and a host of other dignitaries.

Makinde said, “In Nigeria, the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer. What are we doing about it? There may be a revolution in Nigeria if we are not careful.

“The issue of graduate unemployment is another. It has led to an increase in robbery and other social vices.”

He canvassed for free, fair and credible elections and urged politicians to shun rigging, thuggery and other electoral malpractices. He commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s appeal that nobody should rig for him and advised politicians to emulate the President.

He commended Fashola, Tinubu and the Akintola williams-led committee for their invaluable contributions to the building of the cathedral.

Also speaking, Fashola said the road to the inauguration had been challenging.

“It is a day of gratitude that God’s house has been completed. Unless God builds a house, the builder builds in vain.

“It is a day of gratitude to God and to the prelate of the Methodist Church and to members of the building committee.”

In his remarks, Tinubu said, “Today is a day of joy. Makinde has been a source of inspiration to me and others through his rich sermon.

“I thank God I’m alive to witness the commissioning. Also, we pray that Nigeria will be led in the right direction.”
