Imo State Government has promised to give N1 million to anybody who gives the police credible information that will lead to the arrest of kidnapers, armed robbers and perpetrators of serious crimes in the state.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim, who disclosed this in a chat with Vanguard in Owerri, also said that his current move is in addition to what the administration had been doing to beef up security in the state since 2007.
He lamented that the level of sophistication of crime now requires a digital confrontation by all the security outfits in the country, adding that an entirely new outfit has been set up to tackle kidnapping in the state.
“In 2011, government will strengthen the security apparatus of the state. More Armoured Personnel Carriers and other security equipment will be acquired”, Ohakim promised.
Continuing, the Governor, a committee on terrorism and kidnapping have been put in place, stressing that the Imo Vigilante and the Anti-Terrorist Squad will be strengthened to combat the menace of armed robbery and kidnapping in the state.
He expressed happiness that the state police command arrested over 20 suspects for kidnapping and armed robbery in three weeks and pleaded with the citizenry to assist the police in fighting crime and criminals.
