Godwin Obande, a Higher National Diploma 1 Engineering student, was reportedly rusticated from the institution in 2006 after he was allegedly involved in examination malpractices.
Others arrested along with Obande were Daniel Chukwu, Samuel Emmanuel, Fidelis Ajah and John Oklobia.
According to the Niger State Police Commissioner, Mr Michael Zuokumor, Obande allegedly led a robbery syndicate that invaded the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, during which property belonging to doctors and other residents in the centre were stolen.
Zuokumor said that items stolen from the centre included laptops, computers, handsets, cash and personal belongings, adding that the syndicate carried out the raid on three different occasions.
The situation, the police boss said, degenerated to the level that the residents had to embark on a peaceful demonstration to the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, who pleaded for action to be taken to arrest the suspected criminals.
“Today, the assignment given to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) has been fully carried out as all the suspects have been apprehended and the stolen items recovered,” Zuokumor said.
He said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
