In a shocking development, a Ghanaian footballer finds himself among five suspects remanded in police custody following the murder of two police officers at East Trassaco, East Legon. According to court documents presented by Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi of the Legal and Prosecution Unit at CID Headquarters, the suspects, including the footballer, were identified in connection with the heinous crime.

The Chief Inspector, in her presentation before the court, singled out Ganiu Iddrisu as the footballer among the accused. The other suspects named are Mohammed Alhassan Damba, a public servant; Chinkor Abdullah Alhassan, a foreman and Arabic translator; Alex Appoh, a gardener; and Bright Nana Kwame Owusu, a worker at Hakska Block Factory.

Chief Inspector Boadi detailed that the accused individuals are allegedly responsible for the murder of two off-duty police officers, Lance Corporal Tasigya Ngapun Isaac and Constable Benjamin Tindum, on May 2. The officers were reportedly seated in front of their private residence at East Trassaco, East Legon, when they were fatally shot.

Urging the court to keep the suspects in custody to allow for further police investigations, Chief Inspector Boadi emphasized the gravity of the crime.

In a dramatic turn, Nelson Noble Adedawonu, counsel for the accused persons, pleaded with the court to grant bail to the suspects, arguing that the wrong individuals had been apprehended by the police. However, Trial Magistrate Prince Osei Owusu declined the request, opting instead to remand the accused persons in custody. The case has been adjourned to May 20 for further proceedings.
